1. 1095-1116 Hungarian Denar under King Coloman;Huszar 42,Unger 34A;CAC Vol. I/11.13/a1c3/17. It has a sigla of lines just before 3:00 and just after 9:00,a point inside a crescent at 4:00,and line at about 5:00 near the crescent. The reverse was double struck.

2. Anonymous Hungarian Denar (1116-31,King Stephen II?);Huszar 84,Unger 39,CAC Vol. II/18.4.1.1/b2.1/68. It has a sigla of one cross on both sides of the main cross at 2:00.

3. Anonymous Hungarian Denar (1131-41,King Bela II?);Variation of Huszar 102,Unger 53,CAC Vol. ii/18.13.2.1/b2.1/10. It has a sigla of 2 small wedgesat about 12:30 just before the "E". Also,the "E" is reversed in the legend.

4. 1131-41 Hungarian Denar under King Bela II;Huszar 49,Unger 44,Rethy I-57,CAC Vol. I/13.1/c1.3/15. It has a sigla of one small line at about 5:00.

5. 1373-82 Hungarian Denar under King Louis I;Huszar 547 var,Unger 432a var,Pohl 89-1 var. It has a star in the legend between REGIS and HVNGARIE on reverse.

7. 1463 B-I Hungarian Denar under King Matthias Corvinus;Huszar 706,Unger 556b,Pohl 206-2. The "N" is missing from MONETA on obverse.

8. 1633 K-B Hungarian Denar under King Ferdinand II;Huszar 1205,Unger 916c. It has a legend variation of 2 points before FER at about 11:00.

9. 1693 K-B Hungarian Denar under King Leopold I;Huszar 1509,Unger 1114.

3. 1235070 Hungarian Denar under King Bela IV;Huszar 294,Unger 213,Rethy I-229,CAC Vol. III/22.24.1.1/e1.1/2.1/a3.1/1.8.

4. 1267-70 h-R Slavonian Denar under Henrik Nemetujvari Ban as vassal of Bela IV Grand Prince of Hungary;Unger Sz-11.

5. This one is interesting. A 1387-89 Hybrid Hungarian Denar (billon) under King Sigismund of Luxemburg;Huszar 575 obvverse/576 reverse,Unger 448 obverse/449 reverse,Pohl 116 obverse/117 reverse. The "I" is missing from SIGIMUND(I). This is not in the old catalogs but it is listed in Lengyel (Ezustkonyv III) 27/2.1.

7. 1517 K-G Hungarian Denar under King Louis II with VNGARI/VNGARIE legend variation;Huszar 841,Unger 673m,Pohl 255-1.

8. 1569 K-B Hungarian Denar under King Maximilian;Huszar 992,Unger 766a.

9. 1641 K-B Hungarian Denar under King Ferdinand II;Huszar 1263,Unger 953.

Thank you,Quadrans. The one you have is really nice and is higher grade silver. I am wondering if with the weaker silver and the missing "I" in SIGIMUNDI if it could be a contemporary counterfeit. Also,the "U" does not look the same.

Hi Edwards,

The missing letter or letters are frequent in this era, mostly at the end of the legends.
The letters are good shaped, only the low silver content is not really useful at this denars.

3. Anonymous Hungarian Denar (1162-72,King Stephen III?);Huszar 171,Unger 85,a2.5/25. It has a sigla of one point in the upper and lower right quadrants of the cross at 3:00.

4. Anonymous Hungarian Denar (1141-62,King Geza II?);Huszar 148,Unger 69,Rethy I-126,CAC Vol. II/20.6.1.1/0.1/1. It has no sigla.

5. Anonymous Hungarian Denar (1131-41,King Bela II?);Variation of Huszar 97,Unger 49,Rethy I-83,CAC Vol. II/18.11.1.1/c2.1/50. It has a sigla of one small line above and below the horizontal cross bar to the left of the wedges on the right.

6. 1387-95 Point mint mark Hungarian Denar under Queen Maria;Huszar 566,Unger 442,Pohl 112. This is not in the older catalogues. Lengyel shows this with points going around the cross like the previous coin but this has no points.

7. 1496 K-M/AF-B Hungarian Denar under King Wladislaus II with a much smaller "B" in the mint mark;Huszar 803,Unger 638d,Pohl 238-3.

8. 1525 L-# Hungarian Denar under King Louis II;Huszar 846,Unger 675y,Pohl 258-9.

9. 1609 K-B Hungarian Denar under King Matthias II;Huszar 1139,Unger 868.

2. Anonymous Hungarian Denar (1131-41,King Bela II?);Huszar 102,Unger 53,Rethy I-90,CAC Vol. II/18.13.1.1/a2.3/16. It has a sigla of 2 points before the "E" at 1:00. What is after the "E" is probably die damage.

3. Anonymous Hungarian Denar (1131-41,King Bela II?);Huszar 103,CAC Vol. II/18.13.1.2/b2.2/27. It has a sigla of 2 wedges after the "E" at 2:30. It has a lot of copper on the surface.

4. Anonymous Hungarian Denar (1141-62,King Geza II?);Huszar 152,Unger 72,Rethy I-145,CAC Vol. II/20.9.1.1/0.1/1. It has no sigla.
