Vespasian capta coin, genuine or fake ?
« on: December 14, 2008, 06:25:40 am »
Hello,

This is my first attribution to this forum. I'm from the Netherlands, so my English is not perfect.
I collect romain coins with a special interest in the 'capta' coins. Recently, I bought this Vespasian coin form the internet. At the internet it looks okay to me, but when I received the coin the colour differs from the other coins I have. The coin looks dull (I hope I used the right word).

So my question is whether in your opinion this is a a genuine or a fake coin.

Thanks a lot !

Andre

Welcome to the board Andre

It's a small picture but from what I see it looks okay.  I have quite a few Flavian coins that are dull.  Is there anything else that makes you suspicious?

Looks fine to me. In this case dull is not a bad thing.  ;)

Looks entirely genuine to me.
And your English is excellent.

Thanks very much for your reaction!

I was only suspicious because of the colour of the coin.
I have collected quite a few denarii (mostly from different roman emperors) and the colour of this denarius differs clearly from the others.

This coin may be dulll, but collecting roman coins most certainly is not   ;)

Kind regards,

Andre

You hit the nail on the head with that! :)
