Bronze Kohl Amphoriskos With Breasts

(1/1)

Joe Sermarini:
Ex Griffin Gallery of Ancient Art (Boca Raton FL).

This consignor has, at least temporarily, stopped answering email.

I do not know the date, or culture. Egyptian? Canaanite? Phoenician? Syrian?  Anyone know? Refs?

Molinari:
No pic Joe.

Joe Sermarini:
Thanks. fixed.

SC:
I really don't think it is Egyptian.

Why Canaanite?  Is the find area known?

Mesopotamian? Luristani? Bactrian?

Never seen anything quite like it.  The flat, wide upper lip/rim reminds me of Elamite/Luristani mace heads but that is not enough to go on.

Joe Sermarini:
It came from Israel. That might not be where it was made, but it came from there about 20 years ago. A lot of Canaanite material was strongly influenced by Egypt.
