Mayadigger:
Ave!

Copper alloy; 138mm (if straightened)/14.5gm

When first arrived, it was so covered with thick mud, I misconstrued it be La Tene brooch of some sort.

The photos are better than I trying to describe it. LOL!

Just surmising here, what with all the plow bends and damage, the broken end may have had another spoon-like end.
FYI - the hole in the spoon appears to be further plow damage not on purpose?

What is this thing? Any thoughts? HELP!

nikopolis1:
Could be some kind of twizzer or some cosmetic related tool.Have something simular.

Mayadigger:
Ah!

Perhaps a surgical instrument?

Uvula Forceps, maybe?

In Aetius (II.iv.2), there is an interesting description of the amputation of the uvula by first crushing it in a forceps so as to prevent hemorrhage and then cutting it off. Hippocrates (I.63) mentions the uvula crusher as one of the instruments necessary for the outfit of the physician.

See the lower instrument in the photo. Ours is much more crude but it could have served as the same. I have also read somewhere that such cup-shaped instruments were used to withdraw arrow points?

nikopolis1:
Yes could be ,and the size is more or less same .May be Shawn can shed more light here))

SC:
No idea I am afraid.

Doesn't appear to be a real hinge - more like two pieces crimped together.

A set of cosmetic tools - like a mini-chatelaine set??
