Hi, all. Here is a small figure, 5.62 grams, solid
cast bronze and broken at the bottom, with a suspension loop. I am wondering if it could be a steelyard
weight and who it might represent. Features are crudely rendered, and there is a cross-hatched decoration on the chest. Any ideas on date and identity would be appreciated. I have found quite a few
weights on-line, but most of them are heavier and much more detailed, often representing
Roman Gods and Goddesses, or their attendants. Thanks for any
help. V-drome

Bronze Steelyard
Weight?
Roman uncertain date
Solid
cast bronze figurine featuring
head,
upper arms, and torso of an unidentified
person or deity. Integrated suspension loop
at top. Crudely fashioned facial features and
cross-hatched decoration on chest. Lower
portion broken off. Perhaps a sliding hanging
weight for a steelyard, or an amuletic pendant.
