Lead Heart Shaped Object from Caesarea Maritima
« on: December 04, 2022, 07:47:38 pm »
Hi, all.  Here is a small lead object in the shape of a heart, cast or more likely cut from a thin flat sheet of lead.  Lionel Holland published four similar pieces, also from Caesarea, in his wonderful book "Weights and Weight-like Objects from Caesarea Maritima" Hadera, Israel 2009 (see clipping, below), available as a hard copy from various sources on-line.  Chapters of the book are also available for download on Academia.edu (search for "WWOCM").  Holland did not assign a definite function for these items, which are unmarked and do not appear to conform to any known weight standard.  Therefore, I would welcome ideas from any of our experts who may have seen similar finds from other areas.  Thanks, as always, V-drome.
