2 x London Folles

For those who know my collecting focus you will know that I don't really focus on the output of London but I did have the opportunity to buy a couple of London Folles from the Rauceby Hoard recently and I must admit to being bery pleased with them.

The Rauceby hoard is  a pot hoard found in Rauceby, UK in 2017. The hoard was given the reference 2017 T649 by the British Museum who catalogued the hoard and had quite a mix of content but seems to date to the Tetrarchy based on the latest coins in the hoard.

Severus II - Follis
Obv:- SEVERVS NOBILISSIMVS CAES, Laureate, draped and cuirassed bust right
Rev:- GENIO POPV-LI ROMANI, Genius standing left, holding patera and cornucopia
Minted in London
Reference: RIC VI London 59a, LMCC 4.02.016
Weight: 8.1g
Diameter: 27.2mm

This coin given the hoard reference BM # 081

Maximinus Daia - Follis
Obv:- MAXIMINVS NOBILISSIMVS CAES, Laureate, draped and cuirassed bust right
Rev:- GENIO POPVLI ROMANI,
Genius standing left, holding patera and cornucopia

This coin given the hoard reference BM#092

Very nice Martin. I especially like the Maximinus, its a nice early example. I have the Severus one myself, mine was purchased from FORVM and was originally from the Errett Bishop Collection.

Two excellent examples Martin.

Severus is hard to find in such good condition, an emperor that I have yet to add to my own collection for that reason.

well done!

Best regards,

Steve

Both are excellent coins, but my favourite would be the Maximinus: splendid lively portrait!

Many thanks all. I must admit that I also find the Maximinus II the most appealing.
