Great book on Roman coinage

(1/1)

David Atherton:
Just got done reading "Money and Government in the Roman Empire" by Richard Duncan-Jones and it is fabulous.

Though a bit dry at times (it gets very technical) it is a great source of information on coin hoards, die-populations, coin populations, mint-output, circulation studies, ect...

Not a book to curl up by the fire with but extremely interesting.
Highly recommended!

Ibex-coins:
If you liked Duncan-Jones's book then I would highly recommend Kenneth Harl's book, Coinage in the Roman Economy: 300B.C to A.D.700.  It is actually an easier read then Duncan-Jones.

David Atherton:
Ibex, thanks for the recommendation.

Harl's book is next on my list to read.
