Some coins in the British Museum today
« on: May 29, 2012, 03:58:55 pm »
I was wandering the galleries of the BM today and took a few (about 450) snaps in the non-coin galleries (the coin galleries are being refurbished). There's a surprisingly large number of coins just lying around in other areas of the museum. Here's 10 of the 450 pictures, the rest are currently in edit (I removed some of the blank space between coins but otherwise the pictures are as taken by me today).

Owl coinage of Athens

Late Roman emperors in the Hoxne hoard

Mints in the late Roman period

Third lot from the BM today:

Aes Signatum and Aes Grave:

A terrific coin book:

Alexander the Great in Cyprus:

and his Ptolemaic successors:

Dozens more pics where these came from, I just have to crop and stitch and title them and will share more another day. Great museum. Best in the World. If the BM is like this when its coin galleries are closed, what a magnet for numismatists when the new gallery opens in June!

Great photos andrew.

Seeing those hoard collections just lying there for display seems like a waste ::)

Look forward to seeing the rest! :D

Very jealous of the coins.

If I'm ever in England for a trip I will need to stop by!
