Moderator duties are informal. No expertise is required but some knowledge will be helpful. If you volunteer, and are active here, you will get the job. There are no firm expectations but we hope for...
Ensuring decorum and courtesy.
Frequent participation (Hopefully daily most of the time, but we know people are busy, just do your best).
Catching SPAM (Not usually a worry. SPAM is usually reported to me by one or more members within minutes!).
Answering questions (To the best of your ability).
Encouraging others to participate (If nothing else, by your own participation, creative ideas encouraged).

I will volunteer for Maps of the Ancient World and do my best. I am not sure about combining the uncleaned with photography, they are two completely different things. Due to the low traffic, maybe it would be OK as long as the Forum title made it clear it covered both areas. So, I wouldn't whine about it. Those are both subforums I have an interest in, even with the low traffic.

Short answer.

While I am happy to leave things to others I will take the Uncleaned ACD if no one else does.  It would be no problem as I read everything posted there and always have.

To others - Being a moderator is easy.  Real difficult issues (like trolls) are very rare and you can always consult Joe for guidance.  Most of your duties are moving messages to proper threads or deleting duplicates - which are not daily occurrences.  Personally, and this is not required, I try to ensure that every message gets at least one response - even if it is just a welcome message or a "Nice object, no idea what it is."  Overall it adds little time to what I already spend on forum.  You absolutely don't need to be the expert in the subject......

Joe, if you can accept that I don't have reliable internet until the 24th because I'm out of town, I'd be willing to try and take on photography, conservation and storage.

What with Shawn stepping up, as another Ottawa member, I strangely feel obligated.

I would be happy to take on Ancient Glass, etc, of which I have at least a passing knowledge. Although at the moment I can't even see it on the menu.

I would be willing give "Other Antiquities" a try.  I have been putting some of my ancient beads there, just because they don't seem to fit anywhere else.  However, I am definitely NOT an expert in ceramics and sculpture (or much of anything else!), so if anyone else wants it I'll step aside.  Jimi (V-drome)
