I came across this quite by chance.
http://ethos.bl.uk, a division of the British Library currently lists over 30,000 thesis from the past 40+ years, many of which are available for immediate free download.
You need to sign up for the service but it is free and immediate.
A simple search using the word "coinage" finds the following useful theses which are available free of charge. (Note - after clicking "View Thesis" you need to click on "Choose Pricing/Delivery" on the right. As you will see, the following theses are free of charge. also, the "2 volumes" information has been added by myself.

If you search with terms such as Coins Coinage Numismatics etc, only the titles with the pdf logo to the right of the title are available for download. Others, showing an open padlock may be available from the issuing institution.

It does sound extremely useful. Perhaps you could search on "Coins" and on Numismatics" to see if you come up with additional titles?

Hi Andrew
I am in the middle of doing some urgent ID work so don't have the time for the next couple of days but if anyone else has the time, perhaps they could go to the ethos website, click on "simple search" and see what other goodies they can find. It's easy to see the downloadable files because these have a "View Thesis" and a "download pdf" logo on the right.

And yes "numismatic" brings up a few new items too.
I did run into a small security issue. The way the site is set up you can't choose where to download the files too it just downloads in your default spot. This caused a problem when I tried to download it on my work computer as our system prevents this kind of download to the default spot. I can only download directly to my own drive but Ethos does not allow that kind of targetting.
The result is I had to leave the items in my "cart" and download them at home later.
Just a warning that if you have such restrictions at work don't bother to try to download them during your lunch... ;D

Funny thing is, Roger didn't know it had been uploaded and was quite surprised when I told him. He told me he is planning to rework and re-publish it, so asked me not to put it on archive.org in his name, which I offered to do. And yes, it is an absolutely excellent work.
And I bet the ethos server is working overtime and the server techs are baffled by the increased traffic lately ;D

ProQuest does the same for US theses and dissertations -- I just downloaded a number of interesting ones.
Unfortunately, this service isn't free. I have access through my university. The ProQuest website says many public libraries also subscribe.
I could also run a small number (busy life!) of searches for individuals and you may be able to download or order dissertations from the individual universities.
