Ptolemaic or Bruttium?
« on: October 23, 2020, 12:58:12 pm »
AE 23 mm max, 5.04 g

Zeus/Eagle and cornucopia

Without being able to tell for certain whether the wings are open or closed, and with no legend, I'm uncertain how to classify this broken coin.  There appears to be something behind the eagle's head, but It could be part  of the head of a second eagle or a star or other object.  Thank you for any help.

Hi Lany,

It's Ptolemaic, Svoronos 1814. You can see similar at http://ptolemybronze.com/ptolemy_series.html . Just search for "Sv 1814" on the page. Description is "24mm - 6.8gm Cornucopia at left Sv 1814"
