Fake Coins and Notorious Fake Sellers / Annia Faustina
« Last post by Skolot on Today at 03:33:52 am »
Recently I saw a lot of roman coins on Inasta E-Live Auction 111 lot 4857 that contained an Annia Faustina denarius. As far as I know it's extremely rare, only 5 coins are known, 2 of them in museums. This coin looks odd. Unfortunately the seller provided only one photo.

Hi folks,

Today, I added one coin to each of my following website pages:

Italy, House of Savoy, Part 4 (second coin):

https://www.forumancientcoins.com/meepzorp/hs_pt04.htm

Roman Provincial, Phrygia, Laodicea, Part 1 (last coin):

https://www.forumancientcoins.com/meepzorp/rp_phrygia_laodicea_pt01.htm

I also added 2 coins to my following website page:

Roman Provincial, Mysia, Lampsakos:

These are new arrivals. I received them within the past few months.

... What do you do when the in-hand unknown item which you are searching for is 18mm, the example in Wildwinds is 12mm, and other examples are 14mm? ...
Continue your research  :).

For Seleucid coins there is the database Seleucid Coins Online (SCO) showing in some sense the catalogue of the book by A. Houghton and C. Lorber, "Seleucid Coins: A Comprehensive Catalog".
There you see that for these coins do exist three denominations B, C and D:
http://numismatics.org/sco/results?q=authority_facet%3A%22Antiochos+I%22+AND+deity_facet%3A%22Athene%22+AND+material_facet%3A%22Bronze%22+AND+fulltext%3Afacing

With a size of 18 mm and the trident-like monogram on the reverse your coin is SC 319  :): http://numismatics.org/sco/id/sc.1.319
(as already indicated in the link of Pekka).

Skoro Pan pokazał, to i ja pokażę dwie "nieoficjalne" hybrydy Trajana  :)

New coin uploaded - a denarius of Severus Alexander with great eye appeal. One of my new favorites!

Thank you, Virgil. I know exactly what you mean. Sometimes when collecting it's almost too easy to stray.  ;D
