Nero tetradrachm, galley - help!
« on: October 06, 2005, 02:37:40 am »
Though the  Nero's tetradrachms  seems not to be coins of interest now (or common interest - I found only 4 specimen of this type in Coinarchives) I hope that someone can help me with the attribution of this one.

There are two listed in RPC with "ship sailing r.", the only difference is the regnal year before the bust.

RPC 5296 (year 13, AD 66-67) Dattari 263, Milne 273, BMC 176
RPC 5306 (year 14, AD 67-68) citing Hamburger 19.10.1925, lot 618

NER(omega) K(lambda)AV KAI(sigma) (sigma)EB (gamma)EP AV
(sigma)EBA(sigma)TO(phi)OPO(sigma)

Thanks a lot,  Steve.
Coinarchives gives this information on the corresponding auction:
Tetradrachm, Alexandria c. 67-68, billon 14.40 g. RPC 5306.
Extremely rare, only one specimen mentioned by RPC for this year. Toned and VF

This means that the most plausible is the guess that my specimen is of the year 13 (unfortunately   :'() .
