Reference-Help with Rare Mint: Poemanenum
« on: May 01, 2008, 10:03:31 am »
There is a Julia Domna AE23 entry in Plant (scan #1 below),  misattributed to Pergamum, with a clear and close kinship to a Caracalla AE23 of mine (scan #2, 7.43 g); can anyone perhaps post more details * or an actual scan of the Isegrim-referenced coin-type(s) underlying Plant's entry?

  * Isegrim references: Kaufmann-Stauber in Asia Minor Studien 8.78, 51-52; Dieudonne in Revue Numismatique (1901) 10.36; Auktion Ritter Liste 13.248.

Excuse my denseness... but is there a question here? What help are you after?

A fool's bolt is soon shot; in this case the footnote to my query stepped out a bit early, but yes, now there is a real question.

The isegrim entry is almost a match for Sear 2368 = Von Aulock 7522, the only difference is that Sear's entry has IOVΛ for IOV, unless he has been a little bit careless.

Thanks, Steve; wow, you are fast; Sear of course doesn't picture the coin, but I'll check the von Aulock -- remarkable that Isegrim misses that entry, but what Isegrim had got us going at least.

SNG Aulock 7522 and SNG Paris 2391 seem to be from the same die pair, and the Aulock piece clearly has IOVL.

These coins are also like Plant's drawing, but seem to differ from Archivum's coin in the shape of the tripod.

Thank you, Curtis; if it isn't a too much trouble could you possibly post the weights of those specimens?  Another distinction between my coin's reverse die and those: there do seem to be three or so letters (- -  :Csquare: ) in my specimen's exergue.

Thank you again, very much; sounds as if these may two may after all be the same specimens that Isegrim references (6.71 g and 4.99 g), a bit lighter than mine; but in bronze that may not be significant.
