Some pages of
part of a lost
medieval story hidden within the
binding of a renaissance book for centuries have been found by researchers. Dr Irène Fabry-Tehranchi of
Cambridge University made the discovery while conservation
work was being done on a renaissance book from the
rare books section of the university
library. The text has proved to be
part of the
Vulgate Merlin which includes stories of
King Arthur not found elsewhere in early literature. The pages found include a legendary account of
King Arthur leading
his Christain knights to
victory over the Pagan Saxons at the Battle of Cambénic and another story of Merlin appearing at Arthur’s court disguised as a harpist.
