RRSC - Roman Republican Silver Coins - Volume I
« on: January 31, 2025, 04:57:48 am »
Dear Collegues,

Has anybody read this new book written by Piereluigi Debernardi?
Is something really new inside, except new classification?

Just wondering is it worth 100 euros.

It doesn't state that it includes new types, so you might as well stick with Crawford RRC and Seaby RSC - both of which you can find online if you know where to look  ::)

This one looks interesting, as all books do to me, LOL, but it seems pretty limited. It only covers up to 200 BC. My interests are much wider, so this one is not for me. Perhaps it would be great for someone more specialized.

The folks I know who have this in hand -- and there is now a second volume that brings the series up to the usual ending date of c. 30 b.c.e. -- have said to me that although some points of dating are a bit controversial, the production quality is excellent and the association of the data entries with the images, rather than standard plates, is highly useful. I have not seen it myself in hand.

Finally I got a copy from the library and I need to say that it's a really nice book.

It's very well published, there are some new examinations and couple of new theories. Now I need to check the second part.

Maybe the most interesting things are comparsions to greek coins, and parts about suberati in early roman coinage.
