Nice coin. I agree on many coins that have some wear. It make them actually look better sometimes. Agree on the wreath.

Thanks Virgil!
I just finished uploading another coin - an addition to my
collection of coins related to the travels of the apostle Paul. This coin was a "Secret Saturnalia" gift from a Numis Forums member, which makes it even more special! It's a
type I've been after for awhile.
Syria,
Antioch. Time of
Claudius, AE:
https://www.forumancientcoins.com/gallery/displayimage.php?pid=190772Antioch was a very important city in the
history of the early
church. Its first mention in the Bible is in Acts 6:5, which describes Nicolas, one of the seven deacons, as a "proselyte of
Antioch". This would have been in the late 30's AD so evidently there was some mission activity in
Antioch very early on, perhaps within a few years of Jesus's lifetime.
Antioch was also the first place that the apostles were called Christians, and later, the
church at
Antioch takes center stage in the Acts narrative as the base of operations not just for Paul, but also for the other apostles.
Needless to say, given its importance in the New Testament accounts, a coin from
Antioch struck during this time is a very important addition. The coinage of
Augustus from
Antioch is voluminous, but
Claudius less so. This
type, with a
lituus on the
obverse, is rather
rare;
ACSearch lists only a handful of specimens.
Thanks for looking!
