I'm not convinced that a simple DW soak will
help to restore your coin. The
patina appears to be quite soft "
as is"...but the under-laying metal looks sound. Begin by using a hand-held very soft-bristled
brass brush, with little or no pressure in circular motions under running water to remove the residual soft bits. Then use a dull-bladed scalpel in a craft knife to slowly and gently remove and hone down the soft parts, being careful to not cut into the
patina. Begin with the open fields and then slowly progress to the
portrait and
reverse details. Once done, progress to the legends via the same.
This method should aid you to not only bring your coin to glory, but to final
attribution, as well.
