Hadrian sestertius with thick patina
« on: January 27, 2016, 04:59:57 pm »
Hello Coin friends,

This coin from todays auction at CNG.
Many coins had this thick patina paste on it, i hope i can clean it with under microscope a scalpel.

Any tips or tricks ?
All the Best,
Eric

If it is a paint of some sort solvents should remove it.  At least proving whether it is artificial could help you decision to remove it all or not.  The contrast does look good if there is no risk of future damage +++

hello All,

Thank you for you advice, with the coin in hand looking so much better than on picture, i will leave it alone.
the picture suggested, that the chocolate paste is thick and soft with is in hand very thin and very hard
All the Best,
Eric
