Domna mint ?
« on: January 23, 2022, 07:40:17 am »
Dear Board,

I have here a coin of Julia Domna.
I think it is struck at Laodicea ad Mare based on style, am I correct ?

Obv: IVLIA AVGVSTA
Rev: VESTAE SANCTAEยจ

diameter 16 mm
weight 3.5 g

The flan is quite thick.

If it is a Laodicea coin, then it should be RIC S648

Any comments and suggestions appreciated !

Definitely Rome.

New style Eastern denarii are generally much broader and thinner, and in different, somewhat cruder style.

Here is one such for comparison, plus a second from Rome.

Curtis,

Thank you, now I'm somewhat less clueless.
