Now I'm on fire => I can't stop myself!!

Here is another sweet counter-strike ...

=> Troas, Abydos => Eagle stamped over eagle (cock-fight?!)

TROAS, Abydos. Æ23 Countermarked issue
Circa 4th-3rd century BC
Diameter: 23 mm
Weight: 7.98 grams
Obverse: Turreted bust of Artemis right
Reverse: ABY, eagle standing right, head left
Reference: SNG Copenhagen 40 for countermark; SNG Copenhagen 38 and SNG Ashmolean 988-9 for undertype
Other: 12h … VF, brown patina
The undertype is a bust of Artemis facing slightly right, wearing mural crown / Eagle standing right, wings displayed

Oh, and here is another very cool over-strike ...

BOEOTIA, Federal Coinage (Overstrike), Æ18
Circa 220s BC
Diameter: 17.5 mm
Weight: 5.11 grams
Obverse: Head of Demeter or Kore (Persephone) three-quarter face right, wearing corn-wreath
Reverse: Poseidon, naked, standing left, resting right foot on rock and leaning on trident; to right, ΒΟΙΩΤ[ΩΝ] downward
Reference: BCD Boiotia 108 (this coin); HGC 4, 1182. VF, dark brown patina. Overstruck on Æ of Antigonos Gonatas of the type SNG Cop. 1214-1221
Other: 12h … the overstrikes are reversed on this coin, which is quite rare
Ex BCD Collection (Triton IX, 10 January 2006), lot 108

Obverse => it looks like there is a horse wrapped around Demeter's face

Reverse => Poseidon, standing left, all within a huge portrait

I have also tossed-in the host coin

.... yup, this is a pretty cool example

I second that.

That coin is exceptional. The second photo in particular really pops out the details.

Here is my most expensive coin ... and perhaps my nicest?

CALABRIA, Tarentum, AR Nomos
Circa 315-302 BC
Diameter: 20 mm
Weight: 7.98 grams
Obverse: Warrior, preparing to cast spear, holding two others and shield, on horse rearing right (eight rayed star on horse quarter); ΣA below
Reverse: Phalanthos, holding kantharos and trident, astride dolphin left; AP monogram to left; below, small dolphin left

Other: 11h … EF, toned. Excellent metal, exceptional obverse from fresh dies
From the JMG Collection

Oh, and here are two more of my Calaria Tarentum examples (man, they make some pretty cool coins, eh?)

=> so today's examples include three coins from Calabria, Tarentum ... an AR Nomos, an AR Drachm and another cool AR Obol

Very nice. The expression on the dolphin is great, it looks to be somewhat displeased with the situation!

I'm not 100% sure how many of these babies will still be mine after this US Thanskgiving Sale weekend, so I may as well post a bunch of them while they still belong to me, eh?

So here are five of my favourite "Chick Coins" ... Happy US Thanksgiving, my coin friends!! (cheers)
