I will start posting some of my cool coins once I get a free sec (sorry, I didn't realize that your Forvm-Galleries are merely a thread with your name on it!) ... I thought I'd have to be tech-fancy and learn some fancy posting-tricks (sorry for being so slow)
I guess I'll start at the beginning with a cool archaic punch example ...

You can do it by creating a thread, but there is also this https://www.forumancientcoins.com/gallery/
The member's gallery used to have its own tab at the top of the discussion board's home page but now it is hidden in a drop down menu. As you have demonstrated it is not easy to find! I wish it was more prominent.

it is much more than that.
it is a highly detailed (or should be at least), searchable database which is a much overlooked reference, imo.
with some of the coins I've seen in your collection you really should create one, and then link to it at the bottom of your posts. see the links at the bottom of this post for my example...

But only if you're feeling up to it!

Thanks for your advice ... maybe I'll look into it afterwards?

Saturday morning ... my favourite day
What should I show today?
I know, I'll show PONTOS ... man, I love Pontos almost as much as I love Saturdays!
=> here are some of my "Perseus holding the severed head of Medusa" examples (coolest coin-type ever)
-
Pontos ... Nike and Medusa
There are "7" types of these babies ... I collected all and with the help of Ed Snibble (knowledge) and TIF (photo-skills), I was able to get this sweet tray with the relative rareness (sadly, I recently sold the Laodikia "gem" ... but it is what it is, eh?)
=> I hope that you enjoy this wonderful lil' mini-collection
-
... more Pontos miscellaneous ...
:Greek_Alpha: :Greek_Mu: :Greek_Iota: :GreeK_Sigma: :Greek_Omicron: :Greek_Upsilon:
-
... even more ...

Hi Steve,
Wonderful! Beautiful! Great coins and great photos!
Nicely done on the mini-collection.
Thanks for sharing,

Thanks for the kind words, EB (I always appreciate feedback on my cool coins)

Happy Sunday ... man, it's fricken cold outside right now!! (-30 C)
Hmmm, what might warm me up a bit on such a chilly northern Canadian morning?
Hey, maybe a blast from the Middle Ages and/or the Medieval Knighthood era might put a smile on my face (there were some pretty cool Game of Thrones type coins during that era, eh?) ... sure, let's go with that as today's theme.
This first group is from the Middle Ages (800 AD through 1350 AD) ...
-
I'm sure that everybody has slightly different boundaries on the Middle Ages and/or the Medieval Era ... this next group is from the mid 1300's through until the mid 1500's, depicting the true knighthood era of the Middle ages (I love these coins from "Lorraine")
+++
-
Oh, and then there's this final medieval example showing a dragon eating a maiden!! (yup, it doesn't get more Game of Thrones that that, eh?)
... thanks for taking a peek at my gallery
=> please feel free to comment and/or please step-up and add one of your coins to my thread (I love seeing other people's stuff)
-

Hi Steve,
nice collection these look Hammered?
-
Thanks guys ... yes, apparently they are hammered
-
Well, it's been a couple of days, so I thought that I'd say hey ... "hey"
=> here is a miscellaneous coin that needed an atta-boy ... I love this cool ol' bear
GERMAN STATES, Anhalt-Bernburg.
Alexius Friedrich Christian, AR 1/3 Taler
1796-1834
1799 HS
Diameter: ?? mm
Weight: 7.03 grams of 83.3% Silver
Obverse: Crowned-Bear advancing left on crenellated wall containing arched door below
Reverse: Three-line legend and date; •H•S• (mint-master) below
Reference: Mann 728a; Jaeger 41b, KM 70
Other: super cool & sweetly toned (wee scratch on reverse)
*double-click* on the photos for super-size
-
Until I saw that coin I never would have thought there to be a coin with a bear crawling along a wall! What is it doing up there? Why is it crowned? Any further background to these interesting coins Steve?
Peter
-
That's one of the fun aspects of collecting ancient "animal" coins ... I find myself in "modern" times like on this coin (1799 AD) and then I also find myself in 500 BC with my Lydia Lion & Bull coin ...
*fascinating*
-
Peter ... sadly, other than the coin being amazingly cool, I don't know the significance of the bear walking on the wall
:-\
-
This coin has a pretty cool side-profile (sweet relief)
-
Agree. Nice coin.
However coins which are high relief are more difficult to photograph...
Peter
-
Sweet!
-
Definitely some awesome coins.
-
thanks, guys ... it's always nice hearing from my old and new coin bros (I appreciate the interactions)

Wow, it's getting close to Christmas, but this chemo-crap is making it a bit harder to get into the ol' holiday spirit (makes sense I guess, eh?)
However, I am managing to get into the spirit a bit and I've been able to order a bunch of presents on-line (I live in butt-north nowhere, so shopping is a total hit and miss depending upon whether you want something homemade, or whether you want something that the rest of the population actually plays with, or wears!!) ... so again, some local presents are winners, but the selection is very limited, so on-line shopping is a big thing where I live.
Yah, I wish everybody on my list wanted ancient coins, then it'd be a no-brainer!! (easy-peezy shopping for what you love, eh?) ... but mainly my wife has been my present-target ... I usually buy her a couple of first editions for her antique book collection (a collection that I also love, so I'm not sure it's not me that actually collects ancient books?) ... if so, I also buy her a bunch of hoodies and other can't lose winners that she asks for during the year (luckily, she hates jewelry and expensive tastes, so overall, I think that I have a nice mix of fancy books and solid keepers)
... anyway ...
I'm bored and I can't sleep so I just thought that I'd just type and say "hey"
Has anybody nailed any good coin gifts and/or any good spouse or kids gifts this year?
-
Howdy Steve,
anything on wishlist in 2018?
-
I hate hopping in stores. Online ftw
-
Oh, and then there's this final medieval example showing a dragon eating a maiden!! (yup, it doesn't get more Game of Thrones that that, eh?)

Love that coin.
-
Thanks Simon (yah, that coin rocks)
geki => on-line shopping is good is if you you're buying something "known' ... but on-line shopping is bad if you're buying things with random sizes and materials (then it all falls apart) ...
For example, buying a PlayStation4 on-line is a no-brainer (just look for the lowest price from a reputable-enough dealer) ... but buying a coat, or a pair of pants can be quite a different ride (luckily every boob and every butt is just a wee bit different, so trying to house these objects isn't always straight-forward => they all fit a bit differently) ... but I guess all we can do is check the tags in their current stuff and then pray for the best, eh?
Oki => no, I never seem to have any wish-list items (I think I'm super hard to buy for, because I merely buy everything that I want for myself anyway) ... we both work that way ... which is awesome, but it sucks for the other mate come Christmas time (it is nice when you actually find a winner ... a couple of the first editions are pretty cool ... A Catcher in the Rye ... and The Jungle Book are two pretty cool examples)
... but again, for "me" ... no, I'm not asking for any coins or anything like that, so sadly she'll have a pretty hard time finding a soft-spot in my wish-list (but she usually manages to find something that makes me smile, so I am looking forward to Monday morning, like always)
... and you guys? ... do you have any coins on your wish-list or do you have any other wish-list targets? (maybe a new Ford Mustang convertible?)
-
It's getting pretty close to Christmas ...
=> so here is one of my favourite Jesus coins ...
please feel free to add one of your favourite festive examples

Thanks guys ... yah, I'm half-way through the chemo treatment (3 outta 6 sessions are now behind me ... I'm high-steppin' through the treatments!!)
I mostly just feel tired all of the time ... but I've got nothing to do, so I just crash while watching TV (sounds like the good life, eh?) ... it'd be better if the cancer part wasn't looming in the background
=> but thanks for the coin compliments and thanks again for the kind words ... Merry Christmas!!
+++

AE Semis
Some info about this semis since I'm the one who purchased it: This coin is actually not an official Rome mint semis but instead, an imitation, likely struck in Italy during the first century B.C. to address a small change shortage. The Rome mint cut back on its bronze output considerably during the latter half of the second century B.C. so while large numbers of denarii were being minted, the bronzes that citizens used for day-to-day transactions were in short supply outside of the city of Rome itself so, in similar fashion to the Civil War Tokens that many U.S. collectors are familiar with, private individuals or perhaps even city governments began striking imitations on a similar weight standard and with similar designs as Roman bronzes, in many cases re-using old mintmarks such as the dolphin on this coin. The Roman government was probably perfectly fine for this and may have even encouraged it as the Rome mint could focus on striking precious metal denominations which were far more useful for the Roman government itself.
As an interesting note: this example is an obverse die match to the British Museum example which, when BMC RR was originally published was actually thought to be an official Rome mint product(though they were obviously somewhat unsure of its status as it wasn't included in the main arrangement but instead, the appendix at the end of Vol. 2). They've changed their minds since then and the coin is now listed on their website and in more recent updates of BMC RR as an imitation, but it's an interesting footnote in the history of this particular imitation.

Yah, don't get me wrong, coins are my first love ... but antique books and old paper-notes are super cool as well (they're a bit more like "artwork", which is kind of cool ... as you know, paper is a lot more difficult to keep in good shape than metal)
... I guess I merely like collecting "stuff" (I have old vinyl records from my youth, coins, hockey/NFL cards, etc ... it's all pretty neat)
Thanks for looking though my gallery and commenting ... I really do always love to hear your comments (good and/or bad)

Here is a rookie card of Joe Montana ... again, not quite as cool as ancient coins, but still pretty cool, right?
;)
Cheers, my coin-friends ... I hope that you're all having a great Saturday
-
THE JOE!!! (*enodia genuflects*)
I have all of his cards but that one. I once got an autographed Namath card in a pack of Fleers, and some kid in the card shop offered to buy it from me.
To make a short story long I had no interest in Namath but since he had 3 or 4 Montana rookies i said i would trade him for one, straight up. He agreed enthusiastically, but then showed up at our house the very day we were moving to Oregon with $167 in cash and a stack of mildly interesting football cards, none of which were the coveted rookie card. He said he had $200, but had to buy pizza and beer the night before. ::)
Being in a moving frenzy i agreed, and never did get that Joe.
Ahh well...
- Peter
PS; i also still have about 650 vinyl albums. There is nothing like analog sound!

Other: full details on both sides until the last letter (very difficult in this issue) ... nice portrait of the emperor ... excellent dark & desert patina
Yah, I liked several things about both of these great coins ... it is always hard to get rid of coins that I've hunted in a previous situation ...
The Lucania is a nice, big silver winner with a fantastic barley reverse ... the coin has great presence in hand
Oh, and the Claudius is also very cool ... yes, it is "real" desert-patina, so that alone makes it awesome (plus, it's a nice big heavy As pocket-winner)
-
Those are both awesome. I still have a thing for the desert patina, and of course being Canadian I have a thing for barley.i think I will have a beer tonight to toast those two great coins!

Awesome Steve. I was thinking about the Lucania for a long time... snooze you loose I guess.

Great patina on the Claudius. This type has so many official dies and local variations and the desert patina makes it easier to see the highlights.
Thanks for posting.

Hi "AA" ... Peter Murphy

Ummm, well at least they've given me the all-clear once again on the cancer-thingy, but for some reason I have some new, lousy, lung-fibrosis thing going-on (yah, they think it's "probably" somehow related to my 3 x times cancer re-occurrence and all of the drugs ... but either way, it is a bit of a side-swipe to my normal outdoor-athletic-lifestyle ... oh well, I'll adapt to my "new normal')
Thanks again

I should close out the story of the Gryphon As (Crawford 182/2) , which arrived several days ago and is now in queue for cataloging and to go to my gallery! Very happy to have it. Thanks for turning it loose, Steve!
I also wanted to share this unheralded coin, from the same source:
AE Dupondius. Augustan Moneyer T Quinctius Crispinus Sulpicianus, ca 18 BC. AVGVSTVS/TRIBVNIC/POTEST within oak wreath / T.CRISPINVS.III VIR.A.A.A.F.F. around large S C. [RIC 332 although it is possible that it is a variant with just one "F" , I need to look a bit more closely.]
Crispinus had a decent start -- he was one of Augustus's moneyers and then later shared the consulship with Nero Claudius Drusus in 9 b.c.e. (Or, more properly stated, "the year in which Crispinus and Drusus were consuls".)
As the coins graphically demonstrate, their legacies were not parallel -- "Commander and Conqueror of the Germans" on an aureus commissioned by son Claudius versus "one of three men who melt and strike gold, silver and bronze".
And, although Drusus died shortly after, greatly lamented, as wikipedia notes, Crispinus did not fare as well in history: "Velleius Paterculus characterized Crispinus Sulpicianus as "useless and defiant", and accused him of “unique depravity disguised by forbidding eyebrows”. A supporter of Iullus Antonius, he was accused of being one of the lovers of Julia the Elder and was either banished from Rome or executed in 2 BC as a result."
If only our eyebrows could disguise even some of our depravity...
-
PMah => I'm glad that you liked the Gryphon As (enjoy it)
Oh, and congrats on your Crispinus addition as well (thanks for posting it)
... I laughed at the eyebrow comment (sadly, I have very thin eyebrows that wouldn't be able to cloak any of my many vices!)

Hi guys ... well, I'm fairly sure that I'll eventually get around to posting my final 28 coins (I recently had an auction and sold the last of my ancient coin collection), but until then I'd like to say "Hey" to all of you followers/friends/collectors ...
=> Thanks for helping me whenever I needed some coin-advice and/or whenever I needed a sweet coin-friend
Yup, despite the fact that I've never met any of you "physically", you guys have always been there whenever I needed some coin-advice and more importantly, you guys have always been there whenever I needed a life-boost!!
I love you coiners and I hope that I've contributed a wee bit to a few of you guys over the years? ... I've always had a great time collecting ancient coins ... but the best part was always the "good times"!!
I've had an absolute "gas" collecting coin/ancient-coins throughout my life ...
Hey "PLEASE" don't forget that coin collecting is supposed to be "FUN"
I love you folks

Thanks for sharing your coins (and your humour!) Steve! I hope you're well.
Coin collecting is supposed to be fun as you said. Why else would people spend money to buy money that can't be spent?! :)
-
We're only about 1/4 of the way into the season, so there's plenty of time for you to upload and post your coins. If you watch the NY Rangers, you'll have even more free time; that's my secret: they make 20 minutes seem like forever.
Be well, Steve, you are a model of optimism and enthusiasm!

Hi
Hey Steve, an old CCF coin buddy here. I see from photos in this thread you are retired from Vale, and those hills are certainly not from Thompson, Manitoba!! I had to run around all over the internet to find you (nice Canucks shirt, by the way!).
Hope all is well, last time we exchanged messages, you were not having much fun in Winnipeg with treatments. My coordinates have not changed, drop me a line sometime.

Hi Roger ... Steve here
I'm glad that you caught-up with me (amazing error coin collection => congrats)
Yes, I'm no longer in Northern Manitoba => Kamloops has been an awesome retirement location (errr, a bit smoky this summer, but other than that it's been flawless!!)
Cheers, "everybody"

Happy New Year, I cannot pass up an opportunity to post a pic of my best friend and best dog in the world. She is an old girl now and terrified of the fireworks. I love the coins you post. I got a coin of Maud of Hainaut (Frankish Principality of Achaea because my dog's name is Maud, so I know I am crazy.
