New Year Numismatic Resolutions
« on: December 31, 2019, 07:32:41 pm »
Mine are:

1) Post more coins to my Forum gallery
2)  Reduce my TBID (To Be Identified) box by half
3)  Add updated sub-group info to my Crawford RRC "56" box of bronze.

Happy and Healthy New Year, everyone!

My numismatic resolutions for the new year:

- More focus on my main collection areas.

- Once to manage to stay within my coin budget.

- Replace bad coin images with new ones.

Happy New Year

For 2020, I am resolved to...
1) Cataloging, photographing, and uploading my collection of Roman coins (Republican, Imperatorial, Empire, and Provincial).
2) Getting those key reference books, including: RIC II.3 (new), Sear or Varbanov Greek Imperial Coins (new or used), and either the Jameson Collection or Weber Collection (used).
3) Advance beyond "Praetorian" on Forum Ancient Coins.

Stretch goals:
1) Cataloging, photographing, and uploading my collection of Medieval coins (Anglo Saxon, British, French, Anglo-Gallic, and Crusader) and Roman bronze antiquities.
2) Re-cataloging and photographing my coins of Greece.
3) Become a moderator of a FAC discussion board.

2019 Accomplishments!
1) Joined FAC and uploaded all my Greek and Celtic coinage into online galleries.
2) Re-cataloged, re-photographed and re-uploaded my Baktrian coinage onto FAC.
3) Obtained all the available volumes of Roman Provincial Coinage, and several key volumes of SNGs.
4) Mastered white balance in coin macro-photography and created interesting coin backgrounds.

Impressive goals!
Surely other Forum  members are not going to leave all the New Year accomplishments just to Anaximander, Shanxi, and me.
Time to commit, folks, even if wisdom and experience counsel otherwise!

My goal for 2020 is to sell off or trade most of my coins after Nerva and focus my attention on my primary areas of collecting.

Vespasian, Titus and Domitian.
Non-Roman, Southern Italian, particularly Bruttium

Also, I'd like to upgrade my Antony collection by adding more portraits of the man.  I've neglected Antony for a few years now.

2020 should be a big year for me.

In terms of numismatic scholarship, I have four goals:

(1) Successfully defend my dissertation
(2) Publish an essay in KOINON III
(3) Successfully edit and publish KOINON III
(4) Begin work on essay on Judaean bronzes

In terms of collecting:

(1) Perhaps get a really nice sestertius with a long inscription
(2) Silver man-faced bulls
(3) Phokaian electrum man-faced  bull
(4) Get a few Byzantine coins I've had my eye on

Other somewhat-related goals:

(1) Start metal detecting again now that the kids are old enough to join me, and hopefully find old coins

Stretch goals:

4) Become a moderator of a FAC discussion board.

I do not believe Joe asks specific people to become moderators, they usually volunteer, so I suggest you just write to him via PM and suggest what board you'd like to moderate (there are also Global moderators).   I think you'd make a great moderator, and I believe your lowly status  ;) as a praetorian would instantly be elevated to Caesar, knocking off #3 on your resolutions list!

Great advice, Molinari. Much appreciated!  I’ve got a lot on my to-do list, so advice from experienced hands is very helpful.

Humbly yours,
The lowly Anaximander

I have started to work on my 2020 resolutions, and now there are two freaking helicopters hovering a 1/4 mile away.  8 pm curfew in the biggest city in the US.
