possible AE fakes
« on: November 16, 2012, 11:49:19 pm »
Hello Board,
These two auctions have already ended.  I had them flagged as possible fakes for several reasons.  1) they would appear to be higher grade examples and well detailed with easily identified legends, yet sold as unknowns 2) only one side of the coins were shown  3) no returns on the auction  4) the patinas seemed like some of the fake sand patinas.  Now, I discovered that these were offered by the same seller who put the fake Epirote coin in the unclean lot discussed below.  So, I thought I would post the pictures and see what everyone thought.  No metrics were given in the auctions.

I agree. Modern dies/molds, I think, except perhaps for the bottom right one. Glued on sand or 'earthen refill patination' as it is now called.  ;D

I believe they are replicas.
