I want to see the
inscription better.
I also notice the
inscription continues around the sides.
You mention about "
Byzantine" of "
Ottoman" so I am guessing you got it from
Turkey or the seller has told you it is from that region?
A couple of the letters before the "1813" mark on the
side look
Armenian, especially the
ճI have a tin container from
Turkey, given to me by my Aunt whose husband was an antiques dealer, it has a clear
Armenian inscription on both sides, then "1878". In the 19th century, at least, the use of "European" (Arabic) numerals on metal ware seems to have become the vogue for metal smiths in
Anatolia.
