ID for Roman Ram's Head, please
« on: March 28, 2019, 07:39:13 pm »
Ave!

Copper alloy; 56mm x 27mm x 8mm (thick)/169gm (!)

It looks a bit like the end of a patera handle but I'm pretty sure it's not as it's lead filled.

So what is it?

Thanks,

Kevin

Lots of patter handles have lead remains in them.  Used to affix the pieces and also likely to add weight to counterbalance the pot-end.

Ave Shawn,

Thanks for the info! That must have been one heavy skillet!

Best regards,

Kevin

They'd have been handle-heavy, until the pan was filled.

I wonder if they had to balance for some reason....

Ave!

Maybe during sacrificing they didn't want to spill the liqueur?
