Forum numizmatyki antycznej po polsku / Re: Frustracja

Greetings,

I saw your comment, and I am sympathetic to your frustration and complaint. I wanted to publish all of the coin photos, but the editors refused because of the amount of space it would take up (another 30+ pages of colored photos) and financial cost. This is often the case when an author does not publish images of all the coins (someone else always says no). I would share them with you, but the rights are owned by the Eregli Karadeniz Museum. I hope to publish all of the coins with images as soon as possible.

As I was rushed to complete the project, there will obviously be some errors.  Would you kindly point out the misattribution and I will correct it (and give you credit of course once all of the coins are published)?

Best regards,
Edward

I think it is more die wear than anything else. Metal flowed from the foot down the exergue line expanding it. Perhaps the exergue line was engraved all the way into the legend, facilitating flow in the opposite direction as well.

Those are some light hemidrachms. What is the rough diameter on those? I’m assuming an hair under 15mm with those weights?

That looks like a probable match to me. Your top image correlated to the right hand image of the reference coin, but the obverse of your coin has too little photo detail for me to be certain.

Roman Provincial Coins Discussion Forum / Re: Strange detail on Nike
« Last post by Jochen on Today at 05:05:05 pm »
"Fish" was the first suggestion of m wife too! But there is no connection to Nike.

I'm sorry, the detail on this Nike coin gives me no peace. The last suggestion from shanxi was that it could be a die break. Picture (1) from acsearch would show this. Picture (2) on my coin would then be an extension or a reworking of the die break.

Now I have found the picture of this coin at Varbanov. Picture (3) shows this coin. And here suddenly the left side of the base line is no longer a simple straight line, but just as bulging as the right side in picture (2). And in particular, it also bends upwards towards the Nike's garment.

I confess, I'm confused!

Kind regards
Jochen
