Can anyone please tell how rare  bronze coins with animals on them?

Depends on the coin. Gallienus produced loads, VRBS ROMA wolf & twins comemmoratives are extremely common, there are plenty of others. I don't know how common or otherwise that one is, but someone will tell us.

Hi,

This piece is a fantasy of Macrinus and (almost) identified by the vendor as such. Even their date for Macrinus is wrong. It is close to a greek imperial coin of that emperor from Laodiceia ad Mare. As to the rarity of the fantasy piece I'm not certain, the provincial prototype is not particularly scarce.

Regards,

Mauseus

I'm really glad that a use has been found for this image - and that someone has had a look at my modest galleries.

PS there is a Diadumenian obverse coin using this reverse that I would quite like if anyone ever knows of one  :D

All the best
Malcolm

PPS - I think that some of the bidders on that original auction did not register the implications of the word 'paduan' either

I should have spotted that, but I had my wife standing over me hassling me!
