« on: September 24, 2022, 10:04:05 am »
Hello!

Any ideas which emperor's coin it might be and maybe on what coin it was overstruck? Thanks a lot for any help!

Hi, DagonX.  I have a few of these overstruck coins and they are notoriously difficult to figure out.  If you don't get a response here, you might try posting them in the Byzantine section for one of the specialists to look at.  Good luck!  Jimi

This is the Nicomedia mint follis of Maurice Tiberius (Sear 512) with a characteristic difference in the diameters of the obverse and reverse border rims.
The coin is struck over an earlier follis struck in Cyzicus mint (KYZ still seen). Judging by the large size, it was Justinian I follis, as I think.
