Alexander III ?
« on: February 09, 2008, 09:58:38 pm »
Two Black sea greeks I thought were Alexander "Bow & Club " types
But the reverse shows bow &  a arrow with PHI  Alpha below instead
of BA. Can someone point me to a reference source or city/state to
track these down. Size's are AE11 & AE13
Thanks LarryC
:)

I know very little of greek coins, but it really looks like Thrace, Pantikapaion. Several obverse options, but usually  :Greek_Pi: :Greek_Alpha: :Greek_Nu: on the reverse, the   :Greek_Phi: throws me off.

Thanks Howard, you me got back on track, now I'll have to work on the Obv to see what I can match up.
How did you settle on Phanagoria ?
Are you familier with the coinage or was there a clue in that direction?
Learning how to get the answer is a better education than finding
it. :)
Thanks Larry

I used wildwinds graphic search engine and typed in bow and arrow.  It came up with a coin that had the  :Greek_Phi: on it.
