I would say we just don't know what Columbus was thinking :-\, everything else is fiction :).

I was just "floating up" some theories.

Of course, one of Columbus' primary concerns was that he didn't want to risk a confrontation with (and imprisonment by) the Venetians. He didn't want any trouble. Consequently, he sailed west to go east (to avoid the Venetians). In Columbus' mind, the risk of the open ocean and uncharted sea was less than the risk of a confrontation with the Venetians. He would rather "boldly go where no man has gone before" than get mixed up in the political and military rivalry of that time period.
