Hi Joe and Sorin,
I try to upload the coin picture, 268KiB size, but I have a message "403" Forbidden...

We need more information. Where did you try to upload? The gallery? The discussion? NumisWiki? What is the filename? If you can upload it to the board, please do so we can try it. Or send it by email.

Hi,

A few days ago it was not any problem, but 12th of November I try to upload the Postumus Picture (.jpg) file into my Gallery to the
"POSTVMVS TO TETRICVS II." folder It was not possible, I try several times and just now again, always the response "403 Forbidden"...  ???
the file name: "098 Postumus, Cologne, RIC V-II 329, AR-Ant, IMP C POSTVMVS P F AVG, SERAPI COMITI AVG, Q-001, 0h, 21mm, 3,47g-s.jpg"

I use Windows 10 and Chrome... for this process...

I Googled "file naming best practices" and these are the top 5 I found on several websites:

    Files should be named consistently
File names should be short but descriptive (<25 characters)
Avoid special characters or spaces in a file name
Use capitals and underscores instead of periods or spaces or slashes
    Use date format YYYYMMDD

Your file name is MUCH MUCH too long. That may or may not be the problem. I realize you have a naming convention, but I think it is not a good one. The name is MUCH MUCH too long. Please try a shorter name.

You also include spaces and commas. Spaces in jpg names actually cause failure to display the image sometimes. I don't know why.  I have uploaded filenames with spaces, but they are not recommended in best practices.

Commas may not be an actual problem but I have never seen them used by anyone else in filenames.

I will let Sorin know about the issue.

Hi, Joe and Sorin,

I now used a shorter filename:

"098PostumusCologneRICVII329Q0010h21mm3_47gs.jpg"
but not helped the result are same, ..

May be the problem will be something around the new firewall ... who knows

It may be your filename was still one character too long. The gallery software has also been updated, not just the firewall. The change that blocked it could be due to change could be either one. A lot of databases are not going to accept filenames that long.

Just a guess here on file names, but many servers are running Linux, so might be the issue. Back in the day, it was completely verboten to use spaces in a file name. It just wouldn't work. People used '_' between words. I still do it because it actually makes reading file names easier if your file name has multiple words. Windows allowed naming with spaces and, if you are old enough to remember dot command and DOS days (where spaces were still not allowed), spaces in file names have remained unnatural. Anyway, just a thought, most Internet servers are still Linux.

Regards,
Virgil

Thank you, but this is interesting, because I have more than 5000 post and use earliar same long and similar filename, and this was the first time when I have this problem.
I try to post other file they are works, after I deleted them, I do not know why only this file was a problem?!?

In addition, when this problem started it was just after when the Windows and the Chrome was updated, maybe this also a possible source the problem, but Sorin knows better than me it is possible or not …

It may be that after the Windows and Chrome update your long file names became unacceptable to upload. It would not surprise me at all if one of these updates prohibited excessively long file names. If there are new restrictions, they are in place for a reason, probably for a security reason, and not one we should ignore. Hackers use upload fields to try to inject code. It is much easier for them to inject code with longer fields.
