AE Follis Maximianus Help Please
« on: September 18, 2021, 05:52:39 pm »
I thought this one would be easy. LOL. But, I am having issues finding the legends or I am misunderstanding them. I think this is a Maximianus AE Follis from Heraclea.

26mm, 5.78 grams

Obverse legend is biggest issue because it is relatively easy to read, but I can't find matches in my references or online so far. Looks to be IMP CCHI (or CCAI), VHI (the ones I list as 'H' are hard to tell, could be A or something else), MAXIMIANUS PF AVG. The big problem is finding something listed with CCHI, VHI. Closest I have found is CMA and I just don't see CMA on this coin.

Reverse I think is GENIO AVGVSTI and maybe an A at the end.

Mintmark appears to be H?A or H? :Greek_Delta: I have tried to make the mintmark look better in my uploaded image.

Thanks again for any help with this one.

IMP C GAL VAL MAXIMIANVS P F AVG - Galerius Maximian

GENIO AVGVSTI CMH (ligature)

Probably NICOMEDIA 54a or (continuation) 66a. SMNA- :Greek_Stigma: in exergue

Thank you very much Lech. Looks like when I see H, I need to think A. Plus, I had mint totally wrong. I am going to study this one more so I can relate the legends better than I have done.

Virgil
