Ave!

Copper alloy; 21mm/10.8gm

Strap slide? Belt mount? I've never seen one with a face before.

Help!

Me neither.  Interesting that the loops on the reverse are round.  I wonder if it is something from a box - meant to secure a bolt or something?

Ave Shawn,

In hand, the loops are a bit more squarish than round and only 4mm in depth...if that matters.

The face is rather creepy, big bugged out eyes and a slash of a mouth; crudely done, you know?
Most likely from a provincial workshop? Perhaps this face is meant to represent a frightening gorgonian?

Ave Quads aka Joe,

Not a lion, for sure.

Seen below; Copper alloy; 21mm/7.5gm

Con/ Unbroken with glossy green patina, traces of original soldering on the reverse

The 2nd image is Copper alloy; 28mm/8.4gm Lion with open mouth.

One of my friends, believe it or not, actually made a mini-fountain with water pouring from the lions mouth from a similar artifact.
Is that cool or not?

Best regards,

Kevin

Hi, Kevin, it is OK... +++

It was my impression only  :) ;)

Anyway, I have something similar but the triskele on it instead of the face of something...

 Regards

 Joe/Q.
