Title: Roman mount/applique for?
Post by: Kilian O on August 30, 2021, 06:36:19 pm
Anyone has an idea what this item might be? It looks like a shield boss but I really doubt it's that with a diameter of only 56mm and weight of 50 grams. It might be something modern so would like an opinion on what it might be  :) .

Not a shield boss.  Way too small.  I have one the same and have seen several others.  I suspect they are Roman given frequency of finds.  But perhaps a harness thing or more likely furniture boss.
