« on: January 04, 2022, 06:28:26 pm »
Please nominate your selection for our 2021 Member of the Year, who will be awarded the title Tribunus Plebis (male) or Tribuna Plebis (female). Nominations will close on 12 January. Please nominate or second ONLY THE PERSON FOR WHOM YOU WILL VOTE. Post your nomination or second below. Please include the member's REAL NAME and username in your nomination. One Tribunus or Tribuna Plebis will be elected each January for their contribution during the previous year. Voting will begin after the nominations are complete. A member elected for a second time will be designated Tribunus Plebis Perpetuus (male) or Tribuna Plebis Perpetua (female). When a Tribunus Plebis Perpetuus (male) or Tribuna Plebis Perpetua (female) is selected, the member with the second highest number of votes will be honored as member of the year and awarded the title Tribunus Plebis (male) or Tribuna Plebis (female).

Joe, I'm not sure of Eric's last name (?), but how about okidoki?  I've noticed he's one of the more helpful members on the site that has not yet been elected.

If I am allowed to do so (I'm fairly new) I would, without hesitation, nominate Mark Fox. Since I joined, he has stood out to me as one of the most helpful and friendly members here. I see someone
who is widely knowledgeable and who can take an immediate interest in almost anything.

Imho the current votes should not be shown and only later the official result to avoid tactical votes.
If you can see current votes it can influence how you will vote and if you vote later your vote can decide and is more powerful.
I honestly will change how I vote if I see that my favorite has no chance to win anymore and then I will give most votes only for someone I like and has still a chance to win and it can be the case that I do not like someone or think he did not deserve the title this year and then I do vote for the one who has best chances against him (voting against someone). And I do not think that I am the only one who is doing so and this is influencing the results.

I nominate Ralph Thomann (Shanxi) he is always every year very helpful here in Forvm and on German board and he helpped me to find a pedigree for one of my coins on German board.

It is perfectly OK to be anonymous on the discussion board. Altamura is worthy of nomination and I wish we could nominate him. I feel, however, the award is important enough that we should award it by name, not to anonymous users.

I also thought that it was closed, but this reminder made me realized that my nomination was not valid (because of the real name requirement) and I hadn't nominated anyone else. So, if nominations are still open, I will nominate Ron C2, R. Cormier. There are a few reasons. One is he has a very nice gallery. He is active in multiple areas of the Forum where he provides useful and well researched information on everything from Roman denarii to coin photography. His recent forays into the Byzantine area have added to the knowledge base there.

I will understand if nominations are in fact closed.

Regards,
Virgil

Seriously, if I had someone to nominate, it would be Sorin Teodor. I know he’s not participating in numismatic discussions here, but with all the technical problems during the transition to Forvm 2.0 (all year long) he had to deal with, he’s my hero. Without him, there would have been no discussions at all !

I have actually been holding off because of technical issues from the upgrades and because the website was for a while under almost constant attacks by hackers. I think we stopped the hacking attempts. They failed to accomplish anything despite trying for days and days. The same person or people have started placing orders with stolen credit card numbers. Hopefully we will catch all the fraud orders. I have some ways of identifying them. It seems someone really hates FORVM or me.

I am too tired to set up the poll now. I will do it tomorrow.
