The great website on grifterrec about Sasanian coins, is "pending renewal"?
"grifterrec.com expired on 06/24/2012 and is pending renewal or deletion."

Yeah, I had actually tried to get on the site earlier today to i.d. a coin and saw that. Tom Mallon, the site's developer (and active contributor to this, the Parthian and Other Eastern Coins section of Forum), passed away in January...so perhaps it's not entirely surprising that the site is down.

I'm sad to learn about the passing of Tom Mallon.
I must have missed some announcement here or in the "Admin" thread, as I have not seen any mention of his passing away.
I had learn't, last year on another coin forum, that he was not well.
I hope that his great work on grifterrec can be renewed and maintained.

I'm not sure if it was announced here at Forum. I knew about it from the Parthia-L listserv.

Did anyone ever download the site?

I am sorry to hear about Tom Mallon's passing. His website was a Forum website award winner. I depended on it for attribution of Sasanian coins. Unfortunately, he did not take advantage of our free backup space for award winners. Much of the site does appear on the wayback machine. I am copying the Sasanian mints page to NumisWiki. I can only assume Tom would prefer that to it essentially disappearing.
If anyone knows his family, please contact them and see if we can do anything to help resurrect the site. I would gladly host it free.

Yesterday, I called Tom's wife, Nancie. The grifterrec domain has been renewed, and as of last night I have been able to access the site.
-
Good news!

+++ I'm really glad Tom's tremendous work will continue, a legacy to the world of Numismatics.

Excellent! Thanks for relaying the news, Pfitzner.

I noticed the same thing and thought of bringing it up. It was a great site for general collectors (and I'm sure even more advanced Sassanian collectors). For someone like me, who can't read the Persian script, it was pretty darn useful. I'm very sorry to hear about the founder's passing, but I'm glad most of the site is archived. I'll have to check it out.
Sassanian coins are my favorite Middle Eastern coins, if one doesn't count Seleucid. They're really neat and pretty affordable.

For those who may not be aware, Tom Mallon's "The Coins and History of Asia" is up and running at a new domain: http://grifterrec.rasmir.com/coins.html
Seems to be in better shape (fewer broken links and missing thumbnails) than the web.archive.org version.
-
You can also find the complete site on http://grifterrec.org/coins/coins.html
I worked with Tom's widow to set up the site; let me know if anything is broken.

Good info...just bookmarked it. Thanks for the work on this, Ed....and also to Tom's widow, for keeping this important resource available. I have been on the "rasmir" site so much this past year or two, using it to attribute coins from Eastern kingdoms....despite the occasional broken internal links, it is such a helpful attribution tool. Good to hear that what sounds like a cleaned up version is now available, thanks to your efforts.
