Help with provincial Id
« on: January 25, 2021, 11:40:04 am »
Good Morning, everyone!

I am having trouble making out the inscriptions in this coin, as it is not in the best shape and I have never seen this reverse before.

19mm and 3.18 grams

Any help getting started would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks,
Gus

The reverse  shows Telesphorus standing.

I think, if you are able to make pictures with less contrast, and a much more homogenous lighting, it will be possible to read enough of the legend.

Now we can only guess: It could be from Philippopolis or another provincial city.  :-\

EDIT: The new pictures are better

My first Telesphorus cloaked reverse!  And I believe Pekka K is correct, this looks to match inscriptions as best I can tell.  I updated the images to hopefully see the letters a little better.  Sorry for the bad lighting, I used a cheap led laptop book light. :)

I found this example as well.

I find it odd that the example from acsearch lists the Obv as ΑΥΤ Κ Μ ΑΥΡΗ - ΑΝΤΩΝΕΙΝΟΣ, but the coin in the image is missing the 'H' and only shows AYP, same as the one I included from wildwinds.

Thanks for the Help!
Gus
