Numerianus:
Once I already posed a question about the authenticity of this the most common medieval
Bulgarian coin. It surface looks quite unusual. I read the paper by Ilya prokopov on machine
engraved copies illustrated by an example of a similar coin and I would like to know the opinion of experts...
Ilya Prokopov:
As far as I can see on the photo I think the coin is fake of the same type I already wrote about. This specimen however was additionally processed probably with some acid or another aggressive agent. Then it aws coated with artificial patina. Pay attention to the unnatural red-brownish color seen at some spots on your specimen. I have ready to publish 100 such coins and on many of them you can see the same patina with rust color. Besides, traces of rough machine processing and finishing work still can be seen, despite of the masking. As a whole the surface is not usual for medieval coins of this type. Look these photos of similar fakes, but without camouflage.

I am not sure that my specimen was produced using the same technology.
At least, I cannot see this parallel scratches you believe are machine traces on the smooth
surface. It may happen that I do not understand your terminology.
Is it a pressed coin? What is the matrix? Die?
The surface of my coin, where it is flat, is not smooth but has a very specific carpet-type structure which made me suspicious.
It could be that the prefabricated copy was enhanced manually using some sharp
instrument.
I used a strong sunlight to reveal the surface.
The rusty praces look quite insignificant. It is true that the silver is not brilliant but it has no
appearance of being repatinated - just as once being cleaned and then slowly darkened with time.
In any case, my specimen seems to be more "advanced" product than your examples.
I wonder about economical motivation: this type is sold cheaply each week by a Bulgarian seller considered
as of good reputation...
