Happy New Year to you all!
The year began with this coin in my mail box:
AE 31, 22.61 grm.
Obv. (…)AION OVHRON MAXI(…), laureate, draped and
cuirassed bust r.
Rv. AD(…) ET GT,
Dionysus standing facing, looking l., resting on
column, holding long
thyrsus and
cantharus over
panther l.
While a similar coin exists for
Maximus and Adana (
RPC VI, 7150 (temp.),
Levante, Adana 213 et seq.), the
obverse legend seems to exist only for Mopsus (
RPC VI, 7170 (temp.),
von Aulock, Mopsos 74,
SNG Levante Supp. 319). The GT date on the
reverse also indicates Mopsus.
So, any
help on published specimens is highly appreciated. Otherwise, I will stick with unpublished but inform the
RPC team.
Best regards
Thilo
