Trajan Decius anto - Victoria right

(1/2) > >>

Tibsi:
Hi,

What's your opinion about this interesting Decius anto? The reverse legend is VICTOPIA AVC (R-P and G-C swaps)
The problem is the direction of the Victoria running. It must be left instead of right in Roma mint.
Is this an ancient imitation or a modern fake coin?

Ron C2:
I'm assuming you are referencing RIC 29C?

My personal opinion is that your coin looks more like a hybrid with the Rome Group 2 obverse and a Phillip I reverse from RIC 49b.

That said, I am a bit worried about its authenticity.  For example, the raised scratch behind the obverse neck would be either a die scratch or possibly an indicator for a transfer die process (i.e. the fragile electroplated transfer die starting to crack).

Did you get this from the same seller that sold you your Pax Augusti Gordian III?

Tibsi:
I bought it (on 18 march 2018) from silverdenar, who is in NOTORIOUS FAKE SELLERS LIST...
So it is a modern fake coin.

Ron C2:
That's too bad.  I have to admit, it is a very convincing fake, apart from this die combination never officially existing.

Tibsi:
The letters of the obverse legend are not official. Very dangerous fake coin.
