Caria/Lesbos?
« on: October 26, 2021, 08:55:28 am »
Hi!

I believe this one to be from Caria or Lesbos. Then does the obv. depict a deity? Helios or Gorgon or which? The rev. is a mystery for me. A lions head?

Any suggestion would be appreciated.

Regards,
Juke

I'm thinking lion.  What's the weight?

http://hno.huma-num.fr/browse is a good site for identifying Carian coins.

Size: 7 mm
Weight: < 1 g.

I was thinking also maybe Lesbos so I changed the subject field.

Thanks for the HNO tip. Found there the rev. so it is the head of Rhodos right (N:o 2591, Caria).

http://hno.huma-num.fr/browse?idType=2591

On the n:o 2591 there are letters PO behind the head and on mine seem to be the letters A?. What does these letters stand for?
