Fake kyme tetradrachm
« on: January 18, 2018, 07:13:45 am »
Does anyone know if these fakes are made with modern dies?

I do not like the style and think modern dies

"Copies from the Cilicia hoard (1975-76), from Beirut. Struck"

What does that mean, transfer die fakes or modern dies?

IBSCC Bulletin on Counterfeits BOCS Vol 5 No.1/2 1980 Page 8 Fig 1

The example in fake reports is likely pressed from casted transfer dies soft details but many small edge cracks from pressing

Hi Din X,

To me, they look like die matches to Oakley 58. What do you think? That would mean transfer dies, not modern dies unless the coin in Oakley is also from modern dies?
I have attached a scanned extract of the plate.
I do not own an original copy so this is the best image I could produce.

thx @ peterpil19
So they are actually as the Boc entry implies transfer die fakes, so die matches can be authentic or fake.
Mine is fake, artificial toning and too flat. (picture 2)
The one completly covered with block/dark toning could be well authetic, looks ok in picture (picture 3)

again thx.
