Wow! These diplomas are fascinating. I had no idea that they had survived in significant enough numbers to ever be privately owned. I've been reading about them for the past few minutes, and they seem to be a tremendous information resource due to the possibility of the larger fragments having dates, names, family, origins, etc. Very cool!

Thanks for sharing!

Most of what are around today are small pieces of roughly the same size.  I suspect they were cut up fro scrap when they were no longer useful as diplomas.  I wonder if the pieces are all of similar weight or not?

From the ones I've seen they all appear to be different sizes and weights.  Mine is long and narrow and 3.83g

I've posted these in other threads but my Gordian III diploma is in four pieces, all vastly different sizes.

And the same diploma with highlighted script. I'm glad I wasn't drinking a cup of coffee when I read the comments in the second link!   ;D

An interesting story is that I rescued these from four different FleaBay auctions, each weeks apart, with the seller not knowing what they were! Just listed as ancient Roman bronze. It makes me ill to think he may have sold other pieces before I happened upon the auctions.

I emailed him repeatedly to inquire if he had sold other pieces or if he had any more but never got a response.
