Cilicia Anazarbus SNG Levante
« on: November 10, 2021, 09:15:41 am »
I tried to find a copy of SNG Levante locally, but I couldn't. Please, if someone can take a photo on the pages where the monetary issues for Cilicia Anazarbvs appear (I am especially interested in Hadrian issue) I would really appreciate it. Thank you in advance!

Anazarbos is #1363-1528 (plates 92-103) with no Hadrian coins.

SNG Levante also has a supplement.
Anazarbos is 321-351 (plates 26-30), again with no Hadrian coins.

Why don’t you go for the book of Ruprecht Ziegler?

Esnible, that is a little strange. We have issue for Trajan and Antoninus Pius, but we don`t have for Hadrian. Thanks a lot!
Ruprecht Ziegler book`s promises to be interesting, but it seems even harder to find in Romania. Please, can you tell me, in this book is mentioned Anazarbus issues for Hadrian? Thank you!

Sorry - not in my private library - I just know the book as Ziegler was my teacher at University
His book in Cilicia is a corpus

Hi,
I don't think that it is so strange there's no Anazarbus coinage for Hadrian. Notwithstanding the old archaeology saying that absence of evidence is not evidence of absence.

The introduction to the coinage of Anazarbus in RPC III notes that the coinage of the city is intermittent, albeit every few years under Trajan, ie 107/8, 113/14 and 114/5.

There are also no Hadrianic coins known for Flaviopolis, Heirapolis nor Irenopolis where Trajanic issues are recorded.

Regards,

Mauseus

Hi! Yes Mauseus, you have right! Thanks to all for all information! I have only one final question. The issue for Antoninus Pius has the revers legend "ΚΑΙϹ ΤΩΝ ΠΡ ΤΩ ΑΝΑΖΑΡΒΩ ƐΤΟV ΘΟΡ", where "ΘΟΡ" or "ΑΠΡ" and so one, is the year. Please, can someone explain to me how was write this year? in what format?
Thank you!

There are no coins of Hadrian at Anazarbus in Ziegler's monograph or in his addenda of 1998/99, Jahrbuch für Numismatik und Geldgeschichte 48/49, pp. 101-132.
