Title: Hello!
Post by: nolisco on August 20, 2014, 06:48:15 pm
Hello everyone, I have been collecting ancients for a few months now. I love my history, especially that of the Romans, and I enjoy collecting coins so it was only natural for them both to cross paths.

My collection at the moment is fairly small, the highlight so far is an AE 18 of Alexander The Great my main ambition is to collect a coin of each of the 12 Caesars, then collecting others of interest. I have dabbled in uncleaned coins over the past few weeks with some success, seem to find loads of Constantinian dynasty coins, nice but repetitive.

This past week I decided to push the boat out and treated myself to 1/16kg from [REMOVED BY ADMIN], which was said to give earlier coins than what you usually find online. What a lovely looking bunch I received too, I'm looking forward to getting to grips with them. I think one is perhaps Antoninus Pius, the others look mostly greek. https://www.forumancientcoins.com/gallery/thumbnails.php?album=5552 (https://www.forumancientcoins.com/gallery/thumbnails.php?album=5552) I'm not sure how to link a photo here so apologies in advance if I mess this up or have already broken some sort of posting rules.

I have used romancoin.info in the past but didn't realise there was a forum as well, never though of clicking on discussion (oops! ::)). I decided to join because I think I will need help in attributing my latest coins as I feel out of my depth in attributing the Greek ones. I hope to pick some brains and enjoy some active discussion with like-minded people.

Nice to meet you all

Tom

Welcome, Tom. It looks like you have some nice coins in that uncleaned lot.

Welcome.

The best approach is to post coins one by one.  I.e separate postings each with the photo of front and back of an individual coin.

You can post to the cleaning section if you seek help with that, or to the identification section if you want help there.

If you want to do much of the identification yourself be sure to ask for just the hints you want.  Many people here are happy to identify your coins for you but it only by doing as much of the work yourself that you learn, and get the maximum fun and satisfaction.

Thank you all for the replies and for pointing me in the direction of the cleaning and identification sub-sections. Much appreciated.
