« on: January 04, 2010, 08:23:46 am »
Hi All,

May the new year bring us all lotsa coins !

Can anybody explain what this 'Omega' sign stands for on top of these standards ? THANKS
(Obverse legend may not be complete)

Bronze - 19-20 mm – 3,7 grams - Die axis 06:00.

M ANT [GOR]DIΑΝΟS AV (M.Ant. Gordianos Av -  Augustus).
Bust of radiate, cuirassed and paludamentum wearing emperor facing right.

N-IK-A-I / EON (Nikaieon - Of the Nicaeans).
First half of legend between the three stylized army standards.

Provincially minted in Nicaea, Bithynia.
