I agree that it will remove the
patina, but on a coin like this, I'd rather be able to see the detail. It won't make it shiny and I think it would be pleasant looking and darken over time.
I don't buy the wiley's arguments that it should stay
as is because lots of coins are cleaned only a few have gunk on them. The same could be said for every ancient coin pulled out of the ground.
I'm obviously not arguing that
patina should be removed from every coin. The huge majority of bronzes should have their
patina left in tact for many reasons. I just think there are exceptions to the rule and that a coin like this is one of the exceptions.
I realize however that it's a matter of personal preference. Sometimes vehemently so.
