Countermark
a:
Hi all,
Some one can help me to recognize this countermark? I believe that the base for it is half follis.
Thanks,
Explorer

Here is another one with similar countermark.
Simon:
Hi Explorer.
I do not know much about countermarks, but yours is very distinct and interesting. However, any luck on attributing the coin ?( Coin #1) I see a couple of figures waist high on the obverse. Are they there?
Maybe it will be easier to figure out the countermark if we know the ruler at the time. Just an idea!

Jochen:
Hi Explorer!
Look at http://www.romancoins.info/Countermarks.html#Pangerl
Hope you can identify yours!

Jochen
Steve Minnoch:
I think they are both countermarks of Heraclius, the first seems closest to Sear's monogram 22, and the second could be one of a few number of monograms as the bottom is not clear. The note at the bottom of Sear p197 says they are most commonly found on folles of Maurice Tiberius or earlier folles of Heraclius. The second coin looks to me like it was originally a half-follis of Maurice Tiberius.
Syria, Palestine or Cyprus have been suggested as the place of origin of the countermarks.
Best regards,
Steve
